Uproot.ed Aims to Address Three Issues:
Purpose-driven institutions often adopt norms that perpetuate the same inequities they commit to challenging. This misalignment disproportionately harms people from the communities their work is supposed to support. We help organizations align their intentions and impact from the inside out by promoting more equitable perspectives, policies, practices and people systems rooted in care.
The inequities individuals from marginalized communities experience in the world are often exacerbated by those they experience within their institutions, causing heightened harm and accelerated burnout. We support people in surviving, exiting and recovering from workplaces where they feel uninspired, exhausted, and/or exploited.
The systemic struggles we experience at home are inextricably linked to those people of the global majority experience abroad. Consciously connecting with communities outside of our own can help us understand how our histories, healing and liberation is intertwined. We build bridges across borders for travelers invested in uprooting oppressive conditioning, engaging in authentic cultural exchange, and communing with nature.
We envision a future where we've developed the necessary consciousness, creativity, courage and care to uproot oppressive ideologies and institutions while sowing seeds for our collective liberation.
Our comprehensive approach aims to address institutional inequity while supporting individuals subjected to it in resisting harm and recovering from burnout.
Our holistic practice integrates over a decade of experience in advocacy for workers rights, people & equity strategy, managerial leadership, legal practice, coaching, and international immersion with our study of herbal and somatic healing.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONSULTING
“Shannon’s work doesn’t just check boxes—it transforms teams, strengthens communities, and leaves a lasting impact.”
“As the director of a non-profit, I contracted Shannon at uproot.ed to help prepare for our launch through coaching, strategic planning and training. Shannon’s approach is thoughtful, culturally conscious, and deeply impactful. Over the course of several full-day trainings, Shannon guided our team through nuanced topics, including culturally responsive direct representation, non-carceral approaches to community conflict, and strategic planning for our project launch. Shannon also coaching tailored to the needs of neurodivergent staff members.
What stood out most was Shannon’s ability to adapt her facilitation style to meet the unique needs of our staff and community members. The training sessions were engaging, practical, and transformative, giving our team tools we could immediately implement. The 1:1 coaching Shannon provided was equally impressive—supportive, empowering, and designed to build confidence and skill in even the most hesitant participants.
What sets Shannon apart is her unwavering focus on equity. Every element of her work is infused with cultural awareness and a genuine respect for the lived experiences of those she’s supporting. She created a space where both staff and community members felt seen, heard, and valued—a rarity in many training environments.
I’ve also attended Shannon’s public workshops on promoting equity in the workplace, which are just as impactful. As a facilitator, Shannon is warm, engaging, and meticulous, ensuring that everyone leaves with actionable insights. Her curriculum is innovative and grounded in real-world applications, making it incredibly effective. I would highly recommend Shannon to any organization committed to fostering equity and inclusion.

CARE-CENTERED COACHING & COUNSEL
“From the very beginning, Shannon Cumberbatch fought for me with strength, professionalism, strategy, and genuine care.”
What started as an incredibly stressful situation turned into a successful outcome because she never backed down and made sure my voice was heard every step of the way. She ultimately helped secure a buyout, and I truly don’t know what I would have done without her guidance, advocacy, and reassurance throughout the process.
Beyond being an incredible attorney, Shannon represents Black excellence in every sense of the word: intelligent, poised, powerful, compassionate, and fearless. She carried herself with confidence and integrity while also making me feel protected, informed, and genuinely supported during one of the most emotionally draining experiences of my life. Every conversation with her reminded me that I was not alone in the fight. What stood out most was her ability to balance professionalism with humanity. She was strategic and sharp when it mattered most, but also patient and understanding in moments where I needed clarity or encouragement. That combination is rare, and it’s exactly why I trusted her fully throughout the process.
If you are looking for a lawyer who will truly fight for you, advocate for your rights, and lead with both brilliance and heart, I cannot recommend Shannon Cumberbatch enough. I will forever be grateful for her, her dedication, and the outcome she helped me achieve.

TRANSFORMATIVE TRAVEL
“As someone who likes a mixture of adventure, relaxation, and education, I can definitely say that I was able to experience all three on this trip.”
Traveling with uproot.ed made my first time traveling solo and visiting West Africa super seamless. I was given a questionnaire to assess my likes and dislikes so Shannon could create a custom itinerary based on my desired experience. Shannon’s attention to detail made everything so easy. I was able to relax and explore without worrying. There are so many highlights but some of my favorite excursions included visiting the African Renaissance Monument and Museum. All I can say is that pictures do not do it justice. It literally is a breathtaking work of art. I've since traveled with uproot.ed in Senegal several times, and continue to learn so much during each experience. Some of these adventures are the most fun I've ever had, but most recently, I really appreciated learning about the community based agriculture and sustainability systems, as well as the women-led cooperatives crafting beautiful baskets, naturally dyed clothing and organic herbs. Being part of the intergenerational women's circles reminded me of my work as a small business owner back home. There’s so much to see and experience, I look forward to returning every year! I highly recommend visiting Senegal with uproot.ed.
